CFI Tests
For the CFI Program

Pass the three FAA Airman Knowledge Tests for CFI (FOI, FIA, FII)

You must arrive on day one of your CFI class with passing score reports for the three FAA Knowledge Tests (FOI, FIA, FII), all dated within the previous 23 months.

Most people prepare for the CFI writtens (FOI and FIA) by studying the Gleim or ASA CFI prep books and software for Flight Instructor and Fundamentals of Instruction. ATP recommends ASA Prepware to help you prepare for those tests. This can be purchased at most local pilot shops or shipped directly to you from our preferred vendor, Pilotmall.com. If you're an iPad user, we recommend ASA's CFI Prepware App, which contains the prep database questions for both FOI and FIA.

Note that the above products will not prepare you to pass the Flight Instructor Instrument (FII), which is an Instrument Test, not a Flight Instructor Test. That said, similar products exist for preparation for those.
